MUAY THAI

MUAY THAI

At Combat Arts Academy, Muay Thai is taught as a martial art with real purpose behind it.

You’ll get in great shape as a result of training, but the focus is on developing skill — learning how to move, how to strike with control, and how to understand what you’re doing as you build on it over time. Our approach is rooted in the principles of Muay Thai, with an emphasis on technique, discipline, and awareness.

You don’t need to be a fighter to start, but you’ll be learning in a way that develops real, usable skill. As you train, you begin to understand how things connect, and not just how to perform a movement - but when and why it works.

Every drill, every round, and every class is designed to build on that understanding. Over time, that’s what creates confidence — knowing what you’re doing, being able to apply it, and continuing to improve with consistency.

INTRODUCTION TO MUAY THAI

  • Who It’s For: Perfect for beginners or those new to martial arts. Intro focuses on building a solid foundation of Muay Thai fundamentals in a structured, supportive environment.

  • What You’ll Learn: In Intro, you’ll learn the basic stances, strikes, and footwork of Muay Thai. This is where we drill core movements, build conditioning, and develop the fundamentals.

  • Focus on Fitness and Form: While this stage offers a great workout, it’s grounded in practical skills. You’ll build strength, speed, and endurance while developing an understanding of real Muay Thai technique.

  • Progression: Intro provides the foundation you’ll need to progress into Level 2. This isn’t a long-term class to “stay fit”—it’s designed to prepare you for real training, building the skills and mindset needed to confidently enter the next level.

LEVEL 2 MUAY THAI

  • Who It’s For: Those who have a strong foundation in the basics and are ready to take their training to the next level. You’ll need coach approval to move up, ensuring you’re prepared for the added intensity and (controlled) contact.

  • Sparring with Intention: Sparring is introduced in a safe, controlled way, similar to BJJ. The purpose of sparring is not to “win” or outdo anyone; it’s a learning tool, a way to test and improve your skills. In Level 2, you’ll learn to apply your techniques with real timing, distance, and strategy, developing the confidence and awareness needed in a real situation.

  • Mindset and Real-World Application: Level 2 is about training your mind as much as your body. Whether you’re training for fitness, self-defense, or potential competition, Level 2 instills a combat mindset—an essential element of self-defense that’s about more than physical movements. The mental resilience, strategic thinking, and composure you build here are as valuable in life as they are in Muay Thai.

Why Sparring is a Critical Part of Muay Thai Training

While we understand that some members may feel hesitant about sparring, we want to emphasize its importance to your development as a martial artist. Sparring at CAA is conducted with safety and respect as top priorities. Our coaches guide you through controlled, constructive rounds that allow you to practice timing, distance, and reaction. This isn’t about intense contact; it’s about developing the skills that make Muay Thai effective and functional in real-world scenarios.

Even if you never compete, learning within the context of fighting is crucial

—it’s what separates Muay Thai from purely fitness-focused programs. Training with the mindset of a martial artist helps you build the confidence, composure, and awareness that are invaluable for self-defense. This isn’t just about learning movements; it’s about building a mental framework that equips you to handle challenging situations both in and out of the gym.

The owner of the gym is building a culture where inclusivity is more than just a concept, it's a way of life. Where you can be trans, genderqueer, a woman, a kid, a mom, an older person, whatever, and you're welcome...I've never had a community like this before and y'all are the ones that built the space for it to happen.
