BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ, or Jiu-jitsu) is a highly effective combat art for both sport and self-defense. It was designed as a self-defense system, for the smaller person to successfully defend themselves using leverage against a bigger, stronger and heavier opponent. This is important because not everyone is equipped with the strength or athleticism to overpower someone in an altercation. One fact that remains true is that most altercations end up on the ground, which is why BJJ is one of the world’s most effective martial arts and has even been battle-tested in events such as the UFC. The beauty of jiujitsu is that you don’t have to be a professional power lifter, a collegiate wrestler, or a natural athlete – you just have to show up and train.

Our curriculum is structured for progression through all skill levels from beginner to competitor; if you have no experience, our introductory classes are perfect for you.

Our program features all the benefits of Jiu-jitsu in a fun, clean, and friendly environment that introduces students to the principles, theories, and techniques of BJJ. Regardless of your age or skill level, you’ll be surrounded by like-minded individuals enjoying the physical and mental challenge that the art of Jiu-jitsu provides.

ADULT BJJ

We offer a variety of classes for all ages, genders, and skill levels. Our mats are packed with students, professionals, stay-at-home moms and dads, and everyone in between with the common goal of learning Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. We provide a fun and safe environment that caters to everyone’s needs.

WOMEN'S BJJ

Open to all women and non-binary individuals regardless of membership or affiliation. There will always be an open door policy. Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is the best form of self-defense and a great way to get into shape, but it is a male-dominated sport and can be intimidating for new students. This class is specifically designated for women and other people of marginalized genders to have a safer space to practice freely.

KIDS' BJJ

Combat Arts Academy’s youth martial arts program is designed to help your child improve focus, self-control, and discipline, and develop a positive self-image within a fun, safe, and family-friendly environment that emphasizes goal setting and achievement. We don’t just focus on the techniques; our kid's classes also focus on life skills to be amazing human beings!

Class Descriptions:

  • Intro to BJJ: Designed with the new student in mind. These are introductory level classes focusing on basic concepts and principles to help shape your fundamental understanding of BJJ. They are designed to give you a framework to excel in the full program. This class is a prerequisite for all other BJJ classes.

  • Fundamentals: This is where you'll develop your foundation and further your technical development through a mix of drills, technique, and sparring. The focus in the class is the HOW and WHY of the techniques for better application in a live training setting.

  • Takedown/Stand up: Everything starts from your feet. Work on balance and footwork drills, while working your wrestling and judo takedowns.

  • Competition Training: conditioning, positional drilling, competition prep, and rounds. Although labeled as a "competition" training, these classes are open to both competitors and non-competitors. It means that you're preparing as if you are. This will help sharpen your assertiveness and confidence in your jiujitsu. The Friday class will be open to youth as well. This will be both gi and no-gi so come prepared for both.

  • Study Hall: An open format class to work on techniques and concepts relevant to your game. The coach is present to facilitate learning and drilling. Bring questions, techniques, and videos to help troubleshoot.

  • Advanced: Blue belts and up. Study Hall - Open format. The purpose of this hour is to work on material relative to your game. At this point, you should already have a foundation of jiu-jitsu, and are working on positions/techniques outside of the class curriculum. The coach is present to help guide your technique development.

  • No-Gi: CAA believes that a healthy balance of both gi and no-gi training is required in order to develop a comprehensive understanding of jiu-jitsu because of the difference in strategy, technique, and pace. All students are encouraged to attend no-gi classes.

  • Marathon Rolls: The name of this class says it all - back-to-back rounds. The goal is to be able to build up your endurance to be able to last through all rounds.

  • Ladies BJJ: Open to all women and non-binary individuals regardless of membership or affiliation. There will always be an open-door policy. Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is the best form of self-defense and a great way to get into shape, but it is a male-dominated sport and can be intimidating for new students. This class is specifically designated for women and other people of marginalized genders to have a safer space to practice freely.

Note: This class is supplementary; we encourage all students to attend co-ed classes (many of which are also taught by women) because we prioritize our mat safety.

  • Open Mat: This is a dedicated time to get rounds and drilling. Practitioners from other academies are welcome (no drop-in fee needed for open mat).
